John has been working as a performer, producer, director, and educator for twenty-two years. Having worked with many of the best performers and creatives our industry offers, John’s professional performance history has encompassed over 60 productions of Theatre, Musical Theatre, Opera, and Oratorio, as well as vast commercial and concert engagements. John has also directed acclaimed seasons of Rent and Sweeney Todd, plus The Magic Flute, An Opera Odyssey, The Callback, and The Merry Widow. In 2013, he co-wrote, directed, and produced the opening ceremony of the International Convention of Voice Teachers after producing The Last Five Years a year earlier. In 2015, he received a Matilda nomination for Best Production and Best Director for his project Slammed. Since completing four degrees, including a masters, John has also been in demand as a singing and musical theatre performance teacher. For the past seven years, he has been teaching in the Musical Theatre course at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, before which he taught singing at the University of Southern Queensland and held the position of Head of Musical Theatre at the Australian Dance Performance Institute. Being so passionate about young artists’ holistic development has led many of John’s students into fruitful professional performance careers, including leading roles and covers in national and international tours of vast numbers of professional productions the likes of Les Miserables, Book of Mormon, Phantom, Cats and so many more.

Geoffrey Ashenden’s music training includes a Bachelor of Music (Performance) Honours Degree in Pianoforte from the University of Adelaide where he was also awarded the Elder Scholarship for Voice, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the South Australian College of Advanced Education. He has taught Secondary School music in both Adelaide and Brisbane. During this time he also studied voice and has pursued a career as a singer having performed solo roles with opera companies and orchestras in Australia and studied and performed overseas. Geoffrey regularly comperes concerts and has presented pre-performance talks for Opera Qld. He was a sessional voice teacher at QUT Kelvin Grove from 2002 to 2008, Assistant Musical Director of the Stage & Screen Summer Schools at QUT Gardens Point from 2004 to 2007, a sessional voice teacher of classical voice in the Qld Conservatorium’s Young Con Programme in 2010, and from 2011 to 2018 was engaged as a member of the sessional staff teaching voice in the Qld Conservatorium’s Bachelor of Musical Theatre degree. He has also conducted classes for NIDA Open on the singer/actor.
Geoffrey operates a busy private practice as a piano and voice teacher, is in demand as an adjudicator of piano, voice and choral competitions throughout Qld and is an AMEB examiner of singing. He is a Past President of the Qld Chapter Committee and a former Executive member of the National Council of The Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS). He was a member of the organizing committee for the International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT) for 2013. Geoffrey is committed to encouraging and mentoring young musicians and teachers.
Susan Ellis has been a professional vocalist, performer and teacher for over 15 years. Susan graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music (with distinction) and Graduate Diploma of Education. Susan was a member of Opera Queensland’s Young Artist program.
Susan has lectured in tertiary performance at the Australian National University, School of Music and the University of Southern Queensland and taught voice and class room music at many Australian schools. She is a member of Opera Queensland’s Moving Opera team and currently teaches voice at Moreton Bay College in Brisbane. Susan is in demand as a presenter for music education institutes and as a vocal coach for large massed choirs. Susan has a popular Performance Practice workshop that is inspiring young singers throughout Australia.
